9. CSX RDPG Bridge

Original Location: La Follette, Tennessee (Ivydale Trestle)
Year Built: January 1904
Emergency Repair: Bolted repair of complete brittle fracture at midspan of one girder
Fracture on:  Fracture resulted in a derailment on May 25, 2024.

A near full-depth fracture occurred near midspan on one of the two riveted girders that resulted in a derailment of a CSX train in May of 2024 due to the change in track geometry.  The bridge was repaired and train service resumed shortly thereafter.  However, the span was subsequently replaced by CSX and donated to S-BRITE for research, training and educational purposes.
